A commemorative coin paying tribute to Finland’s nature will be launched on 18 September. The coin is part of the Finland 100 programme celebrating the centenary of Finland’s independence. Its design is based on the winning shot in the Blue and White special category of the Nature Photograph of the Year contest. The first commemorative two-euro coin minted in 2017 pays tribute to Finland's 100 years of independence. The total mintage of the year’s first special two-euro coin is 2.5 million, of which 11,000 coins has been minted in proof quality. The special coin is part of the Finland 100 programme and has been granted the Key Flag Symbol of Finnish origin.
The Finnish Tango commemorative coin pays tribute to Finland's tango culture. In line with the theme of the centenary, the design for the commemorative coin was created collaboratively. An overwhelming majority of Finns voted Satumaa (the Fairytale Land), composed by Unto Mononen, as their favourite tango. Mint of Finland’s head designer Erkki Vainio then created a face for the commemorative coin, floating on the waves of the notes to Satumaa.Read more
